About EnviroInformatics

Who we are

EnviroInformatics is a software development company focused on building computational platforms for modeling, simulation, and decision support in water and environmental systems. Our work sits at the intersection of hydrology, water quality, geospatial analysis, and modern software engineering.

We develop software as systems rather than one-off tools, with an emphasis on physical consistency, transparency, and long-term extensibility.

What we do

From physical processes to computational platforms

Water systems are governed by coupled physical, chemical, and spatial processes. EnviroInformatics translates these processes into robust computational representations that can be explored, tested, and extended across planning, research, and operational contexts.

Our platforms emphasize:

  • Physically based and data-informed modeling
  • Explicit treatment of uncertainty and variability
  • Tight integration with GIS and spatial data
  • Modular architectures that evolve with new data and methods
  • Reproducible workflows suitable for both research and applied use

Software platforms

Modeling frameworks developed and maintained by EnviroInformatics

EnviroInformatics develops and maintains a family of software platforms addressing different aspects of water and environmental systems, including:

  • OpenHydroQual – An integrated framework for water system modeling, planning, and optimization across surface water, groundwater, and water quality domains.
  • GIFMod – A process-based modeling environment for green stormwater infrastructure.
  • GreenInfraIQ – A web-based decision-support and analytics platform for site-scale planning, performance assessment, and optimization of green stormwater infrastructure.
  • SedSATIII – A sediment fingerprinting and source apportionment platform for watershed-scale sediment analysis.
  • ChronoGW – A groundwater age distribution and transit-time modeling framework for aquifer systems (to be lunched soon).

These platforms share a common design philosophy: rigorous physical representation, clear assumptions, and extensible software design.

How we work

EnviroInformatics operates as a software development partner rather than a traditional environmental consulting firm. Engagements typically involve:

  • Custom software development and platform extension
  • Licensing, deployment, and long-term support
  • Model formulation, evaluation, and integration
  • Cloud and high-performance computing workflows
  • Applied research and prototype development

We collaborate with agencies, utilities, research institutions, and industry partners to ensure that our software remains both scientifically grounded and practically usable.

Our approach

Our approach is guided by a simple principle: modeling software should make complex systems more intelligible, not more opaque. We prioritize clarity in model formulation, explicit assumptions, and software designs that can be maintained and extended over time.

This philosophy supports transparent decision-making, reproducible analysis, and sustainable software lifecycles.

EnviroInformatics develops software to support understanding, planning, and management of complex water systems through computational modeling.
